30th April 2018

Well here we go again, another month passes by and I don't even know where it went.... but I do know May will go just as quick.

Today I went to the pool, it was so nice and warm there today at last, and the spa's were working so double yay. I must admit I did struggle in the pool a bit, and was so tempted to stop after about 45 minutes, but am glad I persevered as I ended up doing 1 1/4 hours plus aqua jogging :)

Have been thinking more about my food, and after trialling a couple of things this month, I have come to the conclusion that lower carb is no longer working for me. I did the first two weeks of the month where I added in some extra carbs, some crumbed mixtures on my meat at times, an odd ice-cream, banana's daily, some higher carb veggies, and even a weekly meal out (which included chips and a burger or something similar) etc and the weight came down. I then did the last 2 weeks of lower carb again and I increased in weight, the same thing happened in March when I also did a similar experiment. I also checked my daily levels for blood glucose and throughout the month, it stayed in the excellent zone for both types of eating. I still try and avoid sugar, but am going to continue adding some higher carb food's back in, in smaller amounts for now and see how that goes. I am not going to calorie count at this stage, but if I find that I am not losing weight, then I will start counting calories. I have done enough eating programmes throughout the years, I know what I should and shouldn't eat.

Sunday 29th April

Well today was going to be a walking day but ummmmm no, why because of this...

It has been pouring with rain since yesterday morning, and that does not make it nice walking, especially with chronic pain, when the rain drops feel like massive heavy golf balls. So as I have been to the gym 5 days this week, today will be a rest day, and in all honesty it might even be a pyjama day. I cant remember when I last had a pyjama day lol.

I have just rung the pool, and they temperatures are back to normal, yay so swimming tomorrow again and that means a spa after double yay.

I don't normally work Mondays but have a client later in the morning as well.

Food, when I first started, while not exercising I did lower carb, higher fat where I lost a lot of weight and turned my pre diabetes around to no longer pre diabetic, but as normal with lower carb, higher fat my cholesterol went up. So decided to cut back the fat and still do lower carb. Since I started at the gym, this was no longer working and I actually started gaining weight for what ever reason. But after some trial and error, I introduced some natural sugars/carbs in the way of fruit (bananas etc), and added some more carbs like crackers, and eating a bit more higher carb diet, which shows positive on the scales. I am going to research more today (seeing as it is a stay home pyjama day), about it and may look at other options, when it comes to the diet. On average I burn between 1200 - 2000 active calories a day, and about 3500 - 4000 calories a day. If anyone has suggestions I would appreciate any input please :).

Well some places here in Rotorua have been put into a state of emergency, with flooding. We have had so much rain, lucky where we live we are fine. My daughters flat is close to being flooded, the rain has eased a little the last few hours, though a rain warning is still in place. Really feel for people here...... what the f**k is happening with our weather lately, the last few years it seems disaster after disaster in different areas of New Zealand.

Woke up this morning and didn't think I would be going to the gym, still felt stuffed after yesterdays workout and walk. But after being up for about 30 minutes, decided yip I can go to the gym, did lower body workout as it is not quite so intense as upper body. Felt really good, and was proud that I went.

Now I am showered and relaxed, I feel so good that I went. I have been rethinking my weekly workouts and how I can do them and thinking this is how it will go

Monday - Pool

Tuesday - Gym (Full Body)
Wednesday - Walk
Thursday - Gym (Full Body)
Friday - Pool
Saturday - Gym (Full Body)
Sunday - Walk

Today it is miserable outside, it is raining and windy so we are having a nice afternoon snuggled up in blankets watching television, yip real exciting stuff lol

I am f**ked, today I went for a walk, not intending to go to the gym, but when I was back, I thought I would go to the gym and do an upper body workout, adding the few new exercises in from yesterday which I loved, and then I decided to clean the fridge. I have burnt a huge amount of calories today and feel every one of them :).

I am wanting to walk at least 2 -3 times a week, not sure where I will fit it in yet, but maybe do this following plan:

Monday - Pool
Tuesday - Gym - Full Workout
Wednesday - Walk
Thursday - Gym - Full Workout
Friday - Pool
Saturday - Gym - Lower Body
Sunday - Walk & Gym - Upper Body

This will give me at least 2 walks a week and maybe I can add another one in somewhere.....

Friday night we normally have some sort of takeaway, but I am on a mission to lose these 10 kilos, so instead we are going to have soup and cheese on toast (the bread is paleo)..... a lot less calories :).

Plans for the weekend, not sure yet, hubby is working tomorrow morning, I will go to the gym and as for the rest, have no idea :).

Whoohoo have some exciting news, that I cant quite share yet till it is confirmed, but lets just say I have 10 - 12 weeks to get myself fitter for this, so am setting a 12 week challenge to lose 10+ kilos. I weighed in this morning and will weigh myself every Thursday for the next 10 - 12 weeks and knock those 10 kilos of my body, just you wait and see :).

Anyway onto today, went to the gym, met my physio there, and we have added some new stuff into the programme, just to change things up a bit. Tomorrow I will go to the gym and not the pool, as they are still having trouble with thermal bore, so the water is still a bit colder than normal. Hoping by Monday it will be fixed :).

Todays workout stats:

I also want to start adding in some walking as well, I would love to be walking 3k's comfortably 3 times a week. Not sure how I will plan that in my workouts yet though.

Gym done for another day, feels good to be back into it again, ANZAC Day here today, so that means a day off for some of us :)
This afternoon we are going to find an electric frypan, a smaller one, we have a bigger one but just want something smaller, easier for me because it is not so heavy. Our elements are playing up on the stove top, and we are over getting them repaired to break again a few months after. So we are considering getting a new stove top put in, but in the meantime, we can use the smaller elements and use the electric frypan when we want to use the bigger elements. (Basically the thermostat stays on high, no matter if we lower the temperature or not.

We will also go and check out Kmart, we have one in Rotorua now, and I think I am probably the only one in Rotorua who has not checked it out, been open for a few weeks now.

The weather is beautiful today, we have 17 Degrees right now and the sun is shinning, just beautiful.

Back later maybe if anything exciting happens :)

LATER:

Well Kmart was a failure, couldn't even find a park, so I will have to go later in the week, or the weekend. O am wanting a couple of longer T-Shirts for the gym, so just want cheap ones.

Went to Briscoe's and got a smaller electric frypan, and a new pillow mint and lemon (I think lol) smell.

Today, I am taking off from exercise, and doing housework etc, I normally do a Wednesday as a day off and housework, but seeing as it is ANZAC Day, and David is off, I won't feel like housework, but I will go to the gym :)

Day has been quiet, was quite busy with nails today......

I do promise to get a bit more exciting in these blogs, just hard trying to get into them again :)

Monday 23rd April 2018

Today I went to the pool, and OMG it was cold, they are still having issues with the bore,  and worse still there were no spas working as they were freezing.

I got out just in time before the school kids all started turning up..... roll on when holidays are finished this week lol.

Anyway here is my stats for the pool :)
Today I just tried and stayed warm, I never really warmed up from the pool..... No gym tomorrow have exercised 4 days in a row, so rest day tomorrow, and will go to the gym on Wednesday.

22nd April 2018

Today I slept in till 8.45am, thats very rare for me..... woke up and thought bugger the gym, but then thought don't be so lazy and motivated myself to go.

Came home and had Bacon, Breakfast Sausages & Eggs for breakfast.

I did an upper body workout and felt every calorie burnt..... not sure why but here are the stats. I even did a very small time on the stair master, nearly asrsed off when I ended, cant get used to stop it properly, without nearly coming of the back end, it freaks me out no end. Even the treadmill seemed to drag.

Tomorrow I was planning on the pool, but am not sure for 1 thing, it is school holidays and that means lots of kids..... though they are probably not up that early when I go, and also am still not feeling quite 100% and am scared with the cold mornings it might be too cold and I don't want to get sick again. I will see how I feel in the morning, it will be either the gym or the pool, am hoping the pool.

Didn't do much for the rest of the day....

20th & 21st April Updates

FRIDAY 20th April:

Today I went and did an upper body workout, got a little lightheaded towards the end, so gave the stair master a miss, really didn't feel like having a dizzy spell and falling of it lol.

SATURDAY 21st April:

Today I went to the gym again, and did a lower body workout, felt much better today after it, so think I have finally got rid of the bug I hope. Throat is still a bit sore, but 95% better. Again gave the horrid star master a miss, but am going to go back on it tomorrow, and will do upper body again.

I am not sure how often I will post, I would love to do it daily, but we will see. I want to keep a record of this journey, hell I am even thinking I might have a chance of doing a half marathon again in the future.

Went to the doctor again yesterday and blood pressure has gone up even more, he feels the virus has a part to play with that, so go back in a months time and try again, until the blood pressure comes down, I can reduce any more of my meds.

This weekend, no real plans, David worked this morning, I will do gym tomorrow and thats about it for now.

If something really exciting happens I will be back, but the weather is pretty blah so don't hold your breath :).

A bit more about me.....

Ok, some more info on me, my fitness and food...

Food:
I pretty much do lower carb, I say lower carb as I allow myself fruits, as in higher carb fruit like 🍌 and mandarins etc..... I also do have some crackers with cheese and salami etc on it, (I don't overdo it), thats why I say lower carb, I do avoid anything with sugar in it, apart from what comes in natural foods, like fruit etc...... I also make sure I don't have high fat, and also avoid anything with wheat (apart from the crackers).

Health:
I was diagnosed pre diabetic, and with this way of eating I have managed to fix that. I do have high blood pressure, but we feel that is more to do with the increase of pain as I was coming of the meds, but until we can get that under control, there will be no more med reduction.

Exercise:
I have a physio from ACC who does my program currently, a lot of it involves core work, balancing, cardio and weights, so a good combination. Though my weight loss has slowed down, I am still losing cm's at a good rate. I have been going to the gym for a good four months now. I go Monday and Friday to the pool (am hoping to add a Wednesday permanently soon), and go to the gym Tuesday, Thursday and once on the weekend, or twice on the weekend if I don't get to the pool on a Wednesday. I am loving the gym and pool, though I am not sure I will say that when the frosts are here and I have to get up early in them lol. I usually do about 1 1/4 hours swimming lengths, consisting of Freestyle/Backstroke and Breaststroke, I also then do about 20 minutes of aqua jogging. In the gym, my workouts are approx 1 1/4 hours as well, I do a warm up on the treadmill, then do a mixture of Balance/Core and Weights and end on either the Cross Trainer/Bike/Rower. Oh and just started introducing the Stair Master, which currently nearly kills me. I burn anything from about 700 - 1200 calories at the gym and at the pool about 1600 - 1800 calories in a session. I have an Apple Watch Series 3 now, so that I can get an accurate reading, especially in the pool.

Now up until last week, when I got struck with a virus, I had been going minimum 5 days a week to the gym or pool. I went yesterday but then got worse again with the virus, so had today off as I had clients and will also take tomorrow off as I have a busy afternoon with clients, but come Friday I will be back at the gym again. The pool I use is closed this week, due to them using the pool for secondary school water polo. I never thought I would say I would miss exercise lol

I have a doctors appointment on Friday to get a blood pressure check, though if I am still feeling not well, it may not give an accurate reading.

For those who may not know me, here is a bit of info, I am 54 years young, have twins (boy/girl), 23 years old this year, bloody hell. There dad and I split up a few years ago now, and I am married to David. We have 2 dogs, and I am a nail tech that works from home. I am still on ACC since my pushbike accident 7 years ago, from which I developed CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome), but finally things are falling back into place.

So there you have it a bit more about me, I prob wont blog tomorrow but come Friday this machine will be back into it again, am not going to let a virus bring me down any longer :).

Sunday, 15 April 2018

Welcome

Some of you will know me from my previous blogs, but I have decided to start all a fresh. At this stage I am not sure what direction this blog will take, or how personal it will be, time will tell on that :).

My goal is to lose 80 kilos, I have lost 21 kilos, so have 59 kilos to go, I am doing this by cutting out wheat and sugar and exercising. I am doing lower carb, but also at the same time keeping fats to a minimum.

I now go to the gym 3 - 4 days a week and to the pool 2 days a week. I exercise minimum 5 days a week and some weeks 6 days.

I have chronic pain, but am currently coming of all my pain meds, this is taking much longer than I expected, but focusing on one day at a time :)

There is no time frame for this, just focus on each day, one day at a time.

I am not sure how often I will post, just when I feel like it. I weigh in monthly officially usually on the first of each month.

So here you have a very small introduction about me.

"You didn’t gain it overnight so don’t expect to lose it overnight".
