Am feeling so much better...

I feel so much better with this way of eating, and I even braved the scales and am down a kilo since Sunday, I am stoked with that, and did I mention how much better we both feel, not adding extra carbs and sugar. I am still eating fru-jus and ice-cream, but am ok with that for now, while it is hot.

Ok heard from my appointment with a ruptured tendon, it is not till June 10th, I rang and asked if we paid for the first appointment, could we bump up but no such luck, as it is a private hospital and ACC are paying for it, it will make no difference, they did say that I could go with another doctor and could be seen quicker, but really want to see this surgeon. They have put me on a cancellation list, prob along with every other person waiting, oh and this is on the urgent list lol. If I get further complications etc, then I ring them and we go from there. And also they want me to not aggravate it, so if I go to the gym, no upper body weights, especially with that side, and can use the bike and elliptical but not use the hands well the left side hand anyway on it and so on. I am sure June will be here before we know it, considering January is already over. The positives about it being in June, is that it gives me time to lose weight, and it wont be hot for the splint/cast :).

David is on holiday for 2 weeks, this week and next week, but is at work today as he has a course. We have not really done much, its just been to hot. Maybe next week we might, we have been keeping the dogs cool, by filling up the paddling pool and putting them in there and splashing them etc. Would like to go to Hamilton next week and go the the Dutch Cafe they have there 'Zenders Cafe' :).

My car will be ready Tuesday afternoon yay, and not sure if I mentioned that I dont need to pay the excess now and we can maybe do a few things later in the week, before David goes back to work. We dont use his car cause he doesn't have air conditioning, and its to bloody hot to go anywhere without it. It also means I can start back at the gym again :)

I got asked the other day, if I would consider weight loss surgery or Jenny Craig, I have thought about weight-loss surgery but it costing about or over $20,000 for now I just cant afford that, and also I see people regaining a lot of the weight after a few years from the surgery. As for Jenny Craig, I just have never loved there idea of weight-loss, also if I decided to go that way I would look at those delivery meal plans that you can get now, for a fraction of the price, you can get all sorts now, low calorie etc. I know lower carb works, I just need to stick with it for the majority of the time, not the minority.

So thats it for now, catch you all later :)

Things are going ok.....

I am not going to lie, with this heat, I am so glad I dont have a cast/splint on that I cant remove. I am now hoping that another couple of weeks to a month away for surgery will be good lol.

Lower Carb, has been pretty good, apart from ice-cream, with this heat it is a must. Have not weighed in, tempted but know if the scales are up I will be pissed. I feel so much better, even after just 3 days. David is off for 2 weeks, so what we are going to do, while it is this hot, we are thinking of having our main meal at about 2pm, before it gets so hot, and then a light meal at dinner time, if we feel like it. Its times like this where I am seriously considering air conditioning, the only thing I dont like is the doors/windows need to stay shut. Man I would love to be living by the beach right now - one day it will happen :). The Gold Coast temps are about the same as what we are having right now, but those sea breezes would cool it down, though their nights are about 5 degrees warmer :).

Not a-lot more has happened, hopefully some time next week my car will be returned, have not really left the house, Davids car does not have air conditioning, so no way are we going out far in this heat lol.

Anyway just a quick update, my hand hurts when I type and its starting to get sore, so till next time :)

Just an update: Appointment came through and it isn't till June for my hand. I got pissed it is so far away, but now after some thought, it means I have enough time to lose more weight, which will make things easier and it will be winter, which will make wearing a splint much easier to wear :).

Saturday 26 January 2019

Today I start and actually continue.....

Thats it, no more fucken excuses, I weighed in and yip those dreaded numbers went up. If I dont start now, god knows where I will be.

So as from now, I am back doing lower carb. I hate myself right now, well I love myself, but I hate how weak I am when it comes to food. David is on holiday for 2 weeks, so we are going to get started on this as from now :).

My car is still in the panelbeaters and should be ready about Waitangi Day (6th Feb).... Oh and they have waived the excess, as they have found the driver, so that is one good thing.

Now my hand, I should get a letter in the mail next week, telling me when approx I should get an appointment (they grade them by how urgent it is). I am at the point that what will be, will be.....it hurts more but is bearable for now. Apart of me hope's it might be a few weeks ago, so it will be cooler when I have to wear a splint/cast. It would have been nice to have had it done while David is on holiday but that doesn't look like that will happen. I have been researching ORIF (open reduction and internal fixation) surgery, and ruptured tendons, it appears to be about 3% of people that have ORIF surgery, have complications of some sort with tendons. Usually to do with longer screws than needed, hence why I dont want my surgeon who did my ORIF surgery to do this.

So there you have it, today we, will go and get some groceries and get started. I am doing lower carb, not keto..... I figure if I can even lose 5 kilos between now and surgery it, has to be good, hell every kilo lost will be good :).

Catch you soon, and enjoy the long weekend, for those that have it :).

Let's have a catch up....... a proper catch up

Now that I have had time, to get my head around it all, I can explain some more now of what is happening.

First off with the upcoming surgery, I need to get myself as healthy as possible, probably a bit late now as surgery will hopefully be very soon. But I have cut out anything sweet like chocolate etc...., next step will be to cut out wheat... which will be this weak sometime. I have been in denial with my food and have avoided the scales again, I have gained approx 15 kilos in about 3 months, goes to show how much shit food I have been eating and take away the exercise and there you have it. I was planning on exercising at home, but that is no more, I dont want to damage my hand anymore than what it is now.
So for now food is all I can control..... I might not be able to exercise for 12 weeks, but I can control what food goes in my mouth and Low Carb works, just got to start. I will still have fruit though, hey if I have to choose between fruit and chocolate, then fruit wins for now :).

David is on holiday after this week for 2 weeks, am really hopping the surgery can be done then, my specialist is back in clinic today, so really hopping to hear something this week, but to be honest I am not sure how urgent the surgery is. I am hoping sooner rather than later.

My car is getting repaired, so thats good, though after surgery I cant drive for 6 or so weeks. The person that hit me, has been found, thanks to social media, so all looking good there :).

I have been watching this new series, have just finished Season 1 of 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel', and I have just started Season 2, I am loving it, well worth checking it out :) :).

I have decided to use this blog to follow my progress through the surgery and recovery, as there is not really that much info on ruptured tendons in relation to Distal Radius surgery and screws. I have enclosed a couple videos below that hopefully will help better to understand the issue :).

The top photo is similar to what I have in my wrist from 7 years ago. (This is not my x-ray, but one of the internet).

Below is a couple of videos I put together.... The quality and editing is not that great, next time I will use my camera to video etc.... this was just a bit of a trial :).

THE SOUND ISN'T TO GOOD, WILL TRY RELOAD IT IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS - SORRY :(

I plan to vlog/blog the whole thing right through to full recovery :).

What a start to the year.....

Bad News:

The bastard that ran into my car, has fallen off the earth, I have now done a police report, so hopefully, they can find him. So I am liable for the excess, oh yeah they are going to fix my car (thats good news), but why should I pay the excess and why should the insurance company lose out on the thousands.

Went to the GP, have been referred to a hand surgeon in Tauranga, he is top notch as the surgery is complicated. I have heard many good things about him, he also saw my son many years ago, with his Perthes hip problem, but he now specialises in hand surgery. The screws and plate they put in my wrist 7 years ago (when I fell of my bike), well one of the screws has been rubbing against the tendons and made them weak, so when I did weights at the gym, it snapped. No wonder it was a little sore. So surgery is required, what it will involve we will know more in the next week or two, hopefully I will get a relatively quick appointment. The doctor starts back at work on Monday, so hope to hear something in the next week or two.

Surgery will require a splint/cast for about 8 weeks and then rehab to get hopefully full motion back in the hand.

Good News:

The car is getting repaired......

I have one of the best if not the best hand surgeon in New Zealand doing my surgery

And thats all I can offer for now.

Wednesday 16 January 2019

They say things come in three's.....

Well in 16 days, two bad things have happened, still waiting on an update on the car........ was really hoping to hear today :(.

Second thing, went and got my ultrasound today and I dont have a cyst after all, (I wish I did as the alternative is worse), but I have a snapped tendon on my middle finger to the wrist area. What was suppose to a 5 to 10 minute ultrasound, ended up being over 30 minutes, as they discovered there was no cyst, but a snapped tendon.

Tomorrow I go to the GP where a referral will be done to see the orthopaedics, though it looks like surgery is the only option, with a recovery time of 12 + weeks, including 6 - 8 weeks in a splint. Just when the nails are getting busy...

They think one of the screws (from my wrist surgery 7 years ago) was rubbing against the tendon, weakening it, and when I was at the gym 6 weeks ago and doing weights it snapped. It hurt like buggery and I have a good pain tolerance, but thought it would heal itself over time, but it kept getting worse.

So far I am not enjoying 2019....

I feel pissed off right now.....

Thursday 10 January 2019

Great start to the year.......

I wish......

Yesterday as I popped down to the supermarket, some guy went through a stop sign and smacked into the front side of my car (driver side wheel area), got my car towed and now it may be written off, as they think the suspension might be fucked and as it is a front wheel drive, the cost to repair may be greater that what it is worth. Wont really no anymore till mid next week. The driver gave me a number which isn't working, lucky I photographed his license, and his car rego. He was apparently driving his cousins car and he had a Fijian license, he gave me an addy of the owner of the car, so hopefully the insurance can find him. If the suspension isn't fucked, they are hoping that maybe they can get the wheel fixed so I can drive it, and book in the panel beating in a few weeks time, if that cant happen and they decide to repair it, it could be up to 4 weeks before I get it back, as a lot of panelbeaters are closed till Monday and with Christmas they have a bit of a back log, though mine will take priority as they do tow jobs first apparently, though there are a few cars in the same position as me. Who would think this bit of damage could make the car a write off....

This means no car for a while, means no gym either bugger it all, just when I was getting back into it. I can do some exercises at home..... but have been told to be careful with the cyst - or at least till after the ultrasound so we can see what it actually is, though it is more than likely a cyst, putting pressure on the nerve or tendons.

Nails have been really busy, hope that continues now that I am house bound for a while, we have David's car but he also needs his for work.

Anyway will  update more in another post, am feeling a bit down......

Friday 4 January 2019

Oh mannnnnnnn.....

Things have not quite gone to plan, my cyst is getting worse by the day, today we had an x-ray and we go for an ultrasound on the 16th Jan (next available appointment), until then not much I can do except keep it splinted to help with pain. We are probably going to drain it first and see if it stays away. It even gets painful using it to type - hence why no real posts, also not a lot has happened, have not been back to the gym yet, maybe next week, it is just so bloody hot.

Weight: I am weighing every day, and though I am not being perfect food wise, the scales are slowly coming down, and for now I am happy about that :).

Am still doing nails, but keeping them to a minimum due to the cyst.

David goes back to work on Monday, Chris and his girlfriend have been here since Tuesday night and they go back to Auckland on Sunday. Steph has just spent about 10 days in Leigh with her dad and friends, so we were babysitting the bunny, he went home last night, so life is getting back to normal.

I have not really left the house in 2 weeks, apart from the supermarket and doctors appointments. As I have just changed brands with nails, I have spending time doing new swatches and just rearranging the nail room a bit, changing things around.

Tonight David and I are going to Cobb n Co for dinner, have not been there in ages, there food is so so, it seems to depend on the chef on the day, looking at feedback.

We have been having 26 - 27 degrees the last week or so, it is just a tad warm, cant wait for winter lol. Actually it is quite nice sitting in the breeze on the deck in the shade, cooler than inside. We dont have air conditioning, though am seriously thinking about getting it, if we are probably going to be living here another 9 or 10 years.

Anyway thats it for now - catch you soon :)
