Day 6

Day 6 and another 300 grams down (updated weight is in the side bar), and 2 .15 Kilos down so far.

Someone at Davids work brought some daffodils in to work, so he brought some home, they smell divine.

This weekend, nothing exciting is happening, surprise, surprise...... David is doing overtime this morning and need to go to the supermarket and get some more low carb stuff and meat.

Have been having trouble moving my wrist, so the hand therapist suggested a heat pack before exercising and tried it this morning and what a difference, as I was starting to get a bit disheartened.

Dinner tonight is chicken thigh wrapped in bacon and am going to cook garlic mushrooms with bacon as well. The recipe is 'here'. My bloods were up again this morning, but it was down a little this afternoon, Will give it another week or so, if it isn't coming down, might have to go to the doctors.

When David got home, we went and got groceries, nearly $200 later and we are sticked for lower carb eating. Am not going to lie, eating this way is not cheap. But we pretty much have enough food for the week.

No walk today, just because I was lazy, does walking around the supermarket count?.... Water am going to try and aim for a litre a day next week.

Anyway that's it, will try and remember to take a photo of dinner and after I have been to the surgeon/specialist next week I am going to start doing my nails well one hand anyway :).

Have a great day/night where ever you are :)

Friday 30 August 2019

Day 5

Day 5 weigh in is 1*4.15 Kilos, so 100 grams down from yesterday, feeling a little off today and my blood sugars are up..... they started coming down but now they are up again, hopefully they will settle in the next week or two.

Well so much for rain today, it is fine, though the clouds are building up - am not sure if I will go for a walk as this morning I did the vacuum cleaning and did the bathroom and toilet and my hand can feel it, though I try not to use that hand.

I go back to the surgeon/specialist on Tuesday and it will be 6 weeks since surgery then. I am really hoping I can start taking the splint off for short bursts, and that I can drive short distances.

The scars are looking better each day now, am moisturising them and massaging them a few times every day.

Still wearing this splint 24/7 apart from when I do my hand exercises.

Anyway not a lot else to report, having butter chicken for dinner tonight, though I would love the butter naan bread, I am going to turn that down :).

Catch you all soon, and have a great day/night where ever you are :)

Thursday 29 August 2019

Day 4

Yippie another 500 grams down so 1.75 Kilos in 4 days being back on lower carb. Hand/wrist is feeling so much better today, so will go out for another walk sometime today, suppose to get a high of 13 degrees today, it is 10 currently.

And I forgot to take a photo of the pizza last night, but it was yummmmm, next time I will make sure I have more ingredients to put on it. I added some herbs to the chaffle which was nice :), might make one today for lunch.

Did my walk did 10.55 minutes so a little longer than Tuesday's, also I didn't hold the dog strap in the bung hand and that made a difference. I cant believe how unfit I have become in the last 5 months since I stopped the gym.  Tomorrow it is suppose to rain again :(.

And this is lunch, I added some parmesan cheese to it and it was really tasty, tonight for dinner is steak and not sure what else with it yet :)

It's another lovely sunny day out there, though it is still a little nippy, but it is so nice having all the doors open throughout the day.

Anyway thats it for now, catch you soon :)

Wednesday 28 August 2019

Day 3/100

Day 3/100 weigh in - 1*4.75 Kilos, so down 750 grams from yesterday and down 1.25 Kilos in total. So lower carb is working already, and already feeling much better in myself, it doesn't take long to feel better.

Another day of no rain, and a high of 14 degrees, though it is still cloudy, have the door open, even if it is rather chilly.

Monday night I went to bed at 2am again, but got up at about 8.30am, last night I went to bed at 11.30pm and got up at 8am, showered then talked to my dad on Skype (I do that every morning, while I am not working).

Am expecting a few courier parcels today, one from Sephora, one from Ezibuy, one for nails, tomorrow I have acrylic powder etc from Magpie Beauty, they have just brought out there acrylic package, (Magpie Beauty is the brand I use for nails), so if I like using it, I will start doing acrylics again maybe :), oh and another nail package. Also waiting on a package from ASOS, that should be here early next week, yip thats what I do when I am bored, shop online :).

The Sephora package arrived - love this, though I am struggling to do makeup now with 1 hand, come Spring/Summer this will be perfect  :)

From Ezibuy, I just got these two tops to wear with a black skirt for when I start back at work - so nothing to exciting :)

I am going to have one hand of mine with acrylics and Build Me Up gel and see which I prefer. So will have 1 hand with extensions, and one not lol. Hoping to start the hand in the next few days, will prob be only be able to do one - two nails a day.

Tonight we are having homemade pizza's, was going to use Flathead Pizza's base, but dont have all the ingredients (should have checked last night, before David went to the supermarket), and I cant drive yet sooo.... instead I will use the chaffle recipe as the base, what I have seen other's do :).

Yesterday/this morning my hand has been really sore, think it is because I am holding the dog strap with it, Rusty is good to start with but on the way home, when we get near home he wants to run.... so am having today off from walking to let the swelling go down, and will try tomorrow using the other hand and see how that goes, having said that it could also be that I am doing a little bit more stuff with it, when I shouldn't be.

Anyway will post this now, nothing else exciting going to happen today, will try and remember to take a photo of the pizza I make tonight and post tomorrow :)

Tuesday 27 August 2019

Day 2/100

Day 2 of 100 days of weigh ins - 1*5.50 Kilos, down 50 grams :)

Last night we ended up having chicken so tonight it will be bun-less burgers.

Hand therapist has said that the surgeon/specialist has to ok for me light activities and driving short distances, so will ask him next week. These are the light activities I will be allowed to hopefully do sometime in the next week or two. The activities can be done with no splint, and like 1 hour without the splint and one hour with the splint on.

Went for my walk this morning, did 10.28 minutes, so a little up from yesterday, would like to get up to 15 minutes by the end of the week, then increase it by a couple of minutes each week from then on. I do enjoy the walks outside, once I actually get going :). So nice to see the sun, but it is still bloody cold, this morning it was 3 degrees with a high of 12 degrees, tomorrow is a low of 2 degrees bbbbrrrrrrr.

Am about to make my breakfast/lunch soon, will have the same as yesterday, except may add a little maple syrup to the waffle and bacon. Today I put some cheese on the top and bottom of the waffle and cooked it for 4 minutes, then left it for a couple of minutes to crispin up, was so much nicer.

Have just started watching Season 3 of '13 Reasons Why'.... that will keep me busy for a day or two :).

Better get this posted before the day goes by, oh and burgers were nice :)

Monday 26 August 2019

Day 1

Today it begins.... first of Day 1/100 weigh in's 1*6.00 Kilos. I expect the scales to go up for the next few days, till my body adjusts to no sugars/grains/wheat etc..... I am also going to try and remember to take my glucose level each day, though I forgot this morning.

Forgot to add to yesterdays post is water, I need to drink more water and also get into a much better sleeping habit. I have been going to bed about 2am, and waking up about 9am, and then still doze through the day - not good.

Last night I went to bed at 1am and got up at 8am, had my shower and did the washing and was about to go out for a walk, when the rain came down.

Breakfast/lunch was a chaffle - made with 40 grams of cheese and 1 egg in a waffle maker. First time I tried it, next time would let it cook for longer to make it crunchier but quite nice for a first time, I would also add some salt and peeper and maybe some herbs or something, butter might have been nice on it as well. Had it with bacon and a kransky sausage. I am only going to count carbs for now, till it becomes second nature again :).

Breakfast/Lunch is 6.2 net carbs.

I know for me, boredom will be my letdown as I am so used to just eating when I feel like it, not because I am hungry but because I am bored.

Went to the hand therapist today and go again next week after the specialist appointment, which is Tuesday.... I have to ask him if I can drive/do light activities without the splint etc..... cross fingers xx

Went for a walk after the hand therapist, only did 8.05 minutes but better than nothing, tomorrow will aim to beat that - slow baby steps. My arm is feeling a little sore after that, not sure if it  was just the heavy wind that was blowing against it (though I had the splint on), or that I was holding Rusty's strap with that hand whoops.

Dinner tonight is homemade bun-less hamburgers, this is 13.7 grams. So plenty of grams left to have a snack or something...

So thats it - catch you all soon :)

Sunday 25 August 2019

The day before....

It is the day before I start changing how I feel and what I am doing..... I have been feeling like crap emotionally and physically, this surgery has taken its toll because the recovery has been so much harder than any other surgery/broken bones I have had in the past.

Anyway finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, though that end of the tunnel is still a long way off.

The hand exercises I am doing is starting to really show improvement - though I still have to wear the splint 24/7 apart from the 5 minutes every 2nd hour that I do the exercises. I think in about 2 weeks time, (well being hopeful), I will be allowed to drive and then getting back to nails soon after. Tomorrow I go back to the hand therapist, (surgery will be 5 weeks on Tuesday), and am hoping come week 6, I can start taking the splint off more in the day, if not all day, I will still need to wear it at night though for another few weeks.

I am so unfit right now, my back hurts when standing, I am so out of breath all the time as well - though I have not gained weight since surgery, my overall fitness has declined 100%. I am hating the way I feel emotionally and physically. It will be a while before I am allowed back at the gym, so figure walking is the next best option. Food wise, though I have been doing lower carb for the majority of time the rest of the time, it has been full of carbs. So this brings me onto the now.....

I have set myself three goals:

  1. I am going to start walking outside, we are suppose to be getting more fine and dry weather over the next week than rain for a change), so am going to aim for 1 to 2 small walks a day, hopefully this will help to start getting some fitness back. I know it wont be far to begin with, but psychologically it will do me the world of good.
  2.  The next thing I am going to do is the 100 day weigh in challenge, I will put the weigh in's on here (though it might not be daily when I post, but will back date the updates if I dont post every day). I will be putting the weigh in something like this (as I am not confident enough to put my full weigh on here yet). We all know I am over 100 Kilos so it will be something like 1*3.6 Kilos, when I feel confident enough I will put the other digit in (I have to start somewhere) :).
  3. Third goal is I am going to start vlogging, yeah I know I have said this 100 times before, but am really going to make an effort, might just make it a weekly vlog as it will give me something to do rather than watch Netflix or Sky all week. It will be good to edit again, might even edit our Aussie trip from last year :). I am hoping it will make me want to do more things (like cooking, even though I cant' cook complicated meals right now (still mainly one handed), I can do basic lower carb meals in the air fryer.
Speaking of food/meals I am doing lower carb not keto, I am not counting macros - right now my blood sugars are high and need to get them back under control. I am going to completely cut out sugars, and keep my fats on the lower side than what you would with keto. Doing lower carb means that most veges are going to be ok as well, as long as it doesn't go over my carbs. Though I have allowed 80 grams of carbs, I would like to stay round the 50 grams :).

So far for this week, the meals planned are:

Monday - Homemade bun free burgers
Tuesday - Steak
Wednesday - Something with mince.

Anyway thats it for now, will post this before another day goes by..... wish me luck as I know I am going to need it.

Thursday 22 August 2019

Very Slow......

Time is still going slow.......

The scars are starting to heal - upper and under side of wrist.

See the surgeon in 12 days time, am hoping they might pass me to drive little distances (can only hope). Am allowed to remove the splint for my hand exercises, which is 5 times a day for about 3 - 5 minutes. Still cant do nails, as I have no flexibility in my wrist yet, oh and besides I am not allowed lol. At this stage my medical certificate is till the end of September.

Thank god for Netflix, between that and My-sky, I can watch crap till my hearts content. Actually Netflix has some good stuff on it, am just finished watching  'Dead to Me' and 'Working Mums', apparently Season three of '13 Reasons Why' starts tomorrow I think..... I have just stared watching 'Diagnosis' today, looks like it could be quite good.

Scales are the same, go up 500 grams, go down 500 grams.... suppose at least I am maintaining. My food is getting better, doing more lower carb than not.....

Anyway thats about it for now, will post it now, otherwsie it could be sitting there for another 5 days :).

Wednesday 14 August 2019

Not much happening but.......

Monday:

I thought I might do a post - god knows what about but hey...

I weighed in last Monday as my beginning weight yet again, this week I lost 2.15 Kilos, part of it is because I have not been feeling 100% not really sure what it is, just feeling blah all the time, think I might have a bit of a kidney issue, as every-time I cough I get that awful pain in the lower back, if not feeling better by tomorrow, may need to go to the doc.

This weather is taking its toll, its so wet and cold, I just want to open some windows and doors and get the fresh air in. Dont think that is helping with me feeling like crap as well. I must admit, it is nicer that the days are getting longer and its no longer dark at 5.15pm, just need the warmer weather to come. Spring is here soon, my favourite time of the year.

Wednesday:

Yip two days later....

Had my hand therapist appointment a couple of days ago - she is happy with the way things are going. Three more weeks and I can start taking the splint off for exercises. This morning I gave my splint a nice bath and also cleaned my arm, it was starting to smell lol. Hopefully I will be allowed to drive soon after that :). My surgeon said my hand was the worst he had seen for damage done by the screws of a distal radius fracture.

Still getting bored, still cold and wet..... roll on Spring, though it is nice that it is no longer dark at 5pm. Oh yeah when I cough now, it is not nearly as sore now, so hopefully am getting better.

Anyway better post this before another few days go by....

Thursday 8 August 2019

Time is passing so slow, yet so fast....

Went to my 2 week post op appointment last Tuesday - I have been told I am not allowed to use my hand for a further 6 weeks, I was hoping to start back doing the odd set of nails next week, but nope, though I hate that, I certainly dont want too risk any damage and have to go into surgery again, so I better listen I suppose. I still am only allowed to do my minimal exercises every hour.

Food wise, it has been utter crap.... I put on 2 kilos then lost 1 kilo and that seems to be the cycle, gain, lose gain, lose etc..... I am not going to be allowed back to the gym for at least another 12 weeks, so I have asked ACC for a treadmill, I have to get approval from my surgeon, so waiting to hear on that...... Food is up and down, I use the 1 hand thing as an excuse in all honesty, though the last few days I have given up all the sugary foods/treats at least.... Just going to try and focus on one day at a time.....

The bruising has settled somewhat and the disposable stitches have nearly all dissolved as well.

3 days After

5 Days After

2 Weeks Post OP - Looking much better, though still swollen

I am getting so so bored, I am not allowed to drive either, suppose the good thing is, the weather is crappy, so if nothing else that makes me feel better and Spring is just around the corner...... though as I type this it is sunny outside, might go and even sit outside for a bit and let the sun get on my arm....

Our darling little Miss Chico Chops, we have all the info we need now, and I need to do some research, and then have a meeting and get some questions answered.... I still miss her so much everyday, and it just f**king sucks. I still shed a tear most days, she was suppose to be recuperating with me after surgery.

Anyway thats it for now - catch you soon. Oh and it has gone cloudy and cold again......

Thursday 1 August 2019

Time for another post......

I am starting to feel a bit down...... I am sick of doing nothing, yesterday I thought I would make a cheese and ham toasted sandwich in the frying pan, the toasted sandwich maker was in to an awkward place to get out.... I figured it would be easy with one hand (David started back at work yesterday) - well that was not quite the case, when I went to flip it, the grated cheese went everywhere in the pan. I just sat and cried, what was suppose to be a simple task became complicated.

Went to the hand therapist on Tuesday, go again tomorrow (Friday), and back to the surgeon on Tuesday, which will be 2 weeks after surgery, hopefully to remove the stitches. I got the underside of my wrist tape removed and this is what it looks like currently, they reopened up the previous scar from 8 years ago to remove the plate and screws.

Will be interesting to see how it heals over time. The hand therapist is happy with the small exercise/movement I am doing. I do the exercise every hour, it takes about a minute to do and it is a very small movement, thats all I am allowed to do at the moment. Still have to wear the brace 24/7, another 4 weeks to go :). I am still in a lot of pain......

As I mentioned above, I am feeling a bit down, I am trying to stay optimistic but I am not going to lie I am worried about the outcome... the surgeon said the previous surgery (8 years ago), was a mess, and there was nothing he could do about that now.

Whoops it is many hours later now, I kept falling asleep - am not sleeping properly at nights, better post this before I doze even more.
